Born in Policoro (Matera) on August 1st 1959, he graduated in Political Sciences at the University of Pisa.

After completing the Preparation course at the Cesare Alfieri in Florence, he entered the diplomatic career in 1985. Consul in Durban during the transition of South Africa from Apartheid to democracy; Counsellor for Economic Affairs in Copenhagen and Ottawa where, on Sept. 11th 2001, he contributed to manage the crisis on Canadian soil which followed the Twin Towers' terrorist attack.

Ambassador of Italy in Bucarest from 2008 to 2013.

In his years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, Amb. Cospito specialised himself in issues concerning economy and trade. He has worked at the MFA's EU Department and for almost eleven years he served as Diplomatic counsellor for the Minister for Foreign Trade, for International Trade (Emma Bonino) and, more recently, at the Ministry for Economic Development. Before his assignment as Ambassador of Italy in Stockholm, he was Energy Coordinator at the MFA in Rome.

Amb. Cospito has received many honors, both Italian and foreign ones. He is also author of several essays on Central and Eastern Europe, on the International Court of Justice and on European integration.

Amb. Cospito is married to Mrs. Franca Mastroluisi and has two sons.
