The Embassy of Italy in Stockholm hosted the event ‘Beyond profit and non-profit: Investing with purpose,’ a meeting dedicated to the relationship between finance, social impact and new models of responsible investment organized in collaboration with the student association Uis Nordics.
The goal of the event was to explore how investment, business and finance can go ‘beyond profit’ by integrating a clear social, environmental or community purpose.
The meeting was opened by Ambassador Michele Pala, who said he was particularly pleased with this first initiative carried out together with Italian students in Sweden, and Professor Tartari, from the Stockholm School of Economics.
Starting from the experience of the professional path of the three speakers ( Luciano Balbo, a pioneer of impact investing in Italy, Carolina Sachs of Marta’s Explorers and Bergsundet Group and Daniel Sachs of Pcp Capital) the dialogue addressed a series of central themes to understand the contemporary evolution of investment models, accompanied by the contextualization of key concepts such as the distinction (or not) between for-profit and nonprofit, the challenges in pursuing social goals through financially sustainable models, the risk that financialization generates speculative dynamics, and the role of people versus ideas in determining the success of an entrepreneurial project.
