In 1820 famous planner Fredrik Blom, who had previously been working at several buildings in Stockholm, built here his first transportable house, which had been commissioned by British Admiral, Thomas\u00a0 Backer married to the daughter of Earl Erik Ruuth, Finance Minister and Governor General of Pomerania. It was Sir Erik who gave this site the name of Oakhill.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2715 img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/esterno-3-2-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"348\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/esterno-3-2-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/esterno-3-2-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/esterno-3-2-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/esterno-3-2.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 348px) 100vw, 348px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the Century, after repeated property transfers, the summer houses were turned into permanent residences, to be further demolished in 1907, as soon as Prince Wilhelm bought the site.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-714 img-fluid aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ambstoccolma.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/40065_f_amb61Sede2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following year, Prince Wilhelm married Russian Princess Maria Pavlovna and commissioned architect Ferdinand Boberg the present 40-rooms palace as a wedding gift to the Princess, on behalf of her step-mother, Great duchess Sergius-Elisabeth Feodorovna.\u00a0The Princes lived in this palace from 1910, when it was completed, till 1914, when they divorced, leaving it empty until United States Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr Morris, rented it a few years later.<\/p>\n<p>In 1926 Oakhill was bought by the Italian Government. Since then, its building has been the headquarters of the Italian Diplomatic mission in Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to reach the Embassy and the Consulate Chancery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Embassy of Italy in Sweden is located in Stockholm at\u00a0<strong>Oakhill<\/strong>, in the southern part of the island of\u00a0<strong>Djurg\u00e5rden<\/strong>, not far from the Skansen open air museum.<br \/>\nPlease note: The main gate on the top of the hill is the entrance to the<em>\u00a0Embassy<\/em>\u00a0building. Most of the time you probably wish to reach the\u00a0<em>Consulate Chancery<\/em>, a green building on the western side of the hill,\u00a0with a separate entrance (just 100 metres after the main gate of the Embassy).<\/p>\n<p><strong>PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nTram number\u00a0<strong>7<\/strong>\u00a0direction Waldemarsudde stops at the foot of Oakhill and at &#8220;Bellmansro&#8221;, just in front of the Embassy.<br \/>\nBus number\u00a0<strong>67<\/strong>, heading towards Blockshudden or Manilla,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>stops at Waldemarsudde, from where it is possible to easily reach the Embassy and Consular offices by walk.<\/p>\n<p>See\u00a0the\u00a0SL web site\u00a0(\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sl.se\/\">www.sl.se<\/a>\u00a0) for more information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"At the beginning of 19th Century, Oakhill height was called Ryssbacken and used to be a site for summer houses.
