Indeed, in accordance with EU Directive No. 91\/439\/EEC of July 29, 1991, Member States recognize driving licenses issued by their respective authorities.<\/li>\n<li>Citizens who reside in an EU country and have an Italian driving license can:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8211; convert the Italian driving license into an equivalent one from their country of residence (note: this is an option, it is not mandatory);<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; keep the original driving license without doing anything.<\/p>\n<p>However, if citizens decide not to convert the Italian driving license into a local one, complications or delays may arise when a duplicate is needed because the original was\u00a0<strong>lost, stolen, or destroyed<\/strong>. This is due to the fact that information from the State that first issued the license must be requested.<\/p>\n<p>To renew the driving license citizens should contact the competent authorities only: if they are resident in Sweden and\u00a0have converted\u00a0their license, they will have to contact the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportstyrelsen.se\/en\/road\/Driving-licences\/i-have-a-driving-licence\/\">Swedish Transport Agency.<\/a><br \/>\nIf they have an\u00a0Italian driving license, they will need to contact the Motorizzazione Civile in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the website of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mit.gov.it\/conversione-patente-estera\">the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Consulate of the Italian Embassy in Stockholm\u00a0neither issues nor renews driving licenses.
