The occasion also allowed us to continue the celebrations of the IX Day of Italian Research in the World (GRIM2026) which this year aims to enhance the importance of the activities of research centers such as the Gran Sasso National Laboratories (LNGS), one of the largest and most important underground laboratories in the world, founded at the end of the 1980s.

At KTH, on 4 and 5 May, the possibility of building one of the largest scientific laboratories in the world in Europe was discussed, an extraordinary driving force in terms of employment, scientific and technological benefits for all the countries that will be involved. The presidents of the three Italian research institutions involved in the project attended the event: Roberto Ragazzoni (President of INAF), Antonio Zoccoli (President of INFN), and Fabio Florindo (President of INGV) and many Italian and Swedish researchers involved in this project and in other future projects dedicated to the detection of gravitational waves such as LGWA (Lunar Gravitational Wave Antenna). The importance of ET is given not only by the objective of revolutionizing our understanding of the universe, but by the indirect impact that this undertaking represents from a technological point of view. The development and construction of ET will promote technological innovation in strategic sectors such as precision optics, laser technology, vibration isolation systems, vacuum technologies, etc.

These advances will not only be useful for fundamental research, but will have applications in other fields, such as quantum computing, precision measurement and biomedical equipment, moving the technological frontier thanks to one of the greatest engineering works ever achieved. ET is a project that represents a collective undertaking capable of attracting and training young talents to scrutinize the universe and allow us to finally look to the future with optimism.

The Einstein Telescope (ET) project which involves Italy and in particular Sardinia as a candidate to host this extraordinary gravitational wave observatory, 10 years after their discovery, was presented for the first time to the Swedish scientific and industrial community on 4 and 5 May 2026 by the Italian Embassy in Stockholm in collaboration with […]
["post-6132","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
