The Embassy of Italy in Stockholm hosted today the launch event of SINAPSE (Swedish-Italian Network for Advanced Partnership in Science and Education), the first Italian scientific association in Sweden. The initiative was founded with the aim of strengthening ties between the two countries in S&T and encouraging new academic, cultural and high-tech cooperations.

Ahead around a hundred of Italians, but also Swedish, researchers and professionals present at the event, Ambassador Michele Pala expressed his satisfaction: “…  presence and role of numerous and qualified Italian researchers working in this country is extremely relevant and deep-rooted. We felt the lack of an association of professionals like SINAPSE so helping its birth was a priority” underlining, in particular, the value of the initiative and more generally the strategic role of communities of Italian researchers working abroad in promoting innovation and cooperation, a field now worldwide recognized as science diplomacy.Later the scientific attaché, Augusto Marcelli, highlighted the great opportunities offered by the association, a structure capable to trigger new synergies among universities, research centers, foundations, innovation centers and even SME.

The president of the association is Daniela Esposito, Endocrinologist at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg, the vice president Emanuele Bobbio, Cardiologist also at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg, both supported by an executive committee made up of researchers who have been active for many years in various institutions in Sweden and in different areas, from life sciences to physics, from quantum technologies to space just to name a few. This association aims to build an inclusive and interdisciplinary platform capable of connecting skills and projects, a virtual space for meeting and collaboration open to the Italian community, and to all researchers and professionals, and young researchers interested in promoting the exchange of knowledge, supporting bilateral research projects and promoting mentoring and networking initiatives with Italy. Among the priorities of this association is the strengthening of academic mobility and greater visibility of the Italian research and of our scientists.

The initiative is part of the wide commitment of the Italian diplomatic network to enhance human capital abroad and consolidate bilateral relations in the field of research and innovation. With SINAPSE, Italy and Sweden take a further step towards an increasingly structured collaboration, based on excellence, increased sharing at the European level and an ever-increasing internationalization.
