The Ambassador paid a visit to the frigate ‘Luigi Rizzo’ which arrived in the port of Stockholm together with four other ships of the ‘Standing NATO Maritime Group One’, a few days after Sweden formally joined the North Atlantic Alliance. Accompanied by the Defence Attaché, Col. Luccetti, the Ambassador was welcomed by Commander Catia Pellegrino on board the first NATO ship of our Navy to enter Swedish waters. The ship, named after the highly decorated First World War hero, is one of the most modern ships in the fleet. Its current participation in the joint patrol operations in the Baltic Sea is a tangible and concrete demonstration of the engagement of a Mediterranean country like Italy, as a trustworthy and strong ally, to support the mutual security interests at sea of old and new allies like Sweden.
