To celebrate the sixth edition of the Italian Research Day in the World, the Italian Embassy organizes together with the Climate Action Centre of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Italian Cultural Institute an event in Stockholm. The aim of the event is to explore the human being’s ability to cope with extreme situations in environments deemed ‘hostile’. This is possible by resorting to skills inherited from one’s professional training as well as from a given context.
In a dialogue with science writer Eva Krutmeijer, Chiara Montanari will reveal how she managed to develop the so-called Antarctic mindset during her experience as an engineer leading an expedition in the Antarctic. According to Chiara Montanari, the Antarctic Mindset stems from merging her experience in the Antarctic with the study of complexity science. This particular approach allows us to learn how to thrive in uncertainty, not only by reacting to the unexpected, but also by adjusting, controlling and thriving in it.
