ENGLISH

The Italian Embassy in Sweden in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to host an event in Stockholm on the Italian astrophysicist Margherita Hack.

Marica Branchesi, full professor of Astrophysics at the Gran Sasso Science Institute, and Serena Gradari, science communicator, will offer a portrait of the scientist, highlighting her extraordinary personality and her undisputed successes in the field of research but also her social commitment to defending rights and freedoms.

Throughout her life, Margherita Hack distinguished herself for her early civic commitment and her unconventional perspective, which enabled her to fulfil herself as a woman and scientist, freed from the social norms.

She became the first female director to lead the Trieste Astronomical Observatory and during her career, she taught at the Universities of Rome, Florence and Trieste while producing a great number of scientific and popularizing publications.
