Margherita Hack was one of the most brilliant minds in the Italian scientific community and the first woman to head an astronomical observatory in Italy. To commemorate the anniversary of her death an event was held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm on 28 August 2023, with the participation of Prof. Marica Branchesi, a member of the ASI Board of Directors, and Dr. Serena Gradari, writer, journalist and populariser of science.
Prof. Branchesi met the Italian Ambassador Vinicio Mati at his residence. During her visit to Stockholm, she had the opportunity to meet important Swedish institutional and industrial realities in the space sector. Prof. Branchesi met Prof. Kristine Dannenberg, head of space exploration and access to space at the Swedish National Space Agency (Rymdstyrelsen) and representatives of the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC). SSC is a state-owned company and leading worldwide provider of advanced space services with over 50 years of experience in the sector, operating the Swedish space launch base in Esrange and working with dozens of institutional and commercial customers worldwide. On 29 August, during her visit to the SSC headquarters in Stockholm, Prof. Branchesi had the opportunity to meet engineers and researchers working at the Swedish Space Corporation.
