On September 28-29, ENIT Stockholm organized a promotional event in the heart of the capital offering an open-air pop-up opera, with several famous songs performed in settings that could evoke a bit of the characteristic Italian atmosphere, such as the town hall’s arches, a flower and fruit market, the historic center’s alleys as well as some green spaces in the centre.
The singers were Simonetta Cavalli, an Italian soprano who has just moved to Sweden, and Ulf Bergström, a Swedish tenor with a career also in Italy.
The initiative, which was warmly welcomed by the Swedish public, further drew attention to one of Italy’s “most authentic and original cultural expressions”, opera singing, candidate for recognition as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
