At an event held at the Italian Residence in Stockholm, the Princess Estelle Cultural Foundation (PREKS), which runs since 2019 the sculpture park located on the island of Djurgården, announced today that the work of art that will enrich the park in 2024 will be created by the Italian sculptor Giuseppe Penone. Penone is one of the major Italian artists of the second half of the twentieth century and a pioneer of the Arte Povera movement, an artistic avant-garde of great influence at an international level. Penone’s sculpture will become a permanent element of the artistic landscape of Stockholm, and in particular of the island of Djurgården, where the Embassy is also located. This is an important recognition for Italian culture and for the impact that it has on the contemporary scene.
The Ambassador Michele Pala welcomed in his opening speech the journalists and personalities from the world of culture and the arts, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Francesco Di Lella, described what distinguishes Giuseppe Penone’s work.
The name of this year’s chosen artist for the Skulturpark was announced by the Executive Director of the PREKS Foundation, Sara Sandström.
